The rise of remote and hybrid work models has transformed the way businesses operate—and how risks should be managed through insurance. Traditional business insurance policies were often designed around a centralized office, but with employees splitting time between home and the workplace, it’s important to reassess your coverage to ensure it reflects these new work environments.

Here are the key insurance considerations to review as your business embraces remote or hybrid work:

Cyber Liability

Whether employees are working remotely full-time or just part of the week, accessing company networks from multiple locations increases cyber risks such as data breaches, hacking, and ransomware attacks. Education remains the best way to protect your firm from hackers. Quarterly cyber training is inexpensive, not time consuming, and can be done at the employee’s convenience. It may save your firm from a crime that costs you thousands of dollars. On top of cyber education, purchase cyber liability insurance to protect you from  these evolving threats.

Property Coverage

Business equipment—like laptops, monitors, and other devices—used both at home and in the office may not be fully covered under your existing property policy. Build an inventory list of company equipment off premises, including dates purchased, descriptions, and costs. Then review this list with your insurance agent and clarify whether your coverage protects these assets regardless of where they’re used.

General Liability

With a workforce that is remote or hybrid, General Liability exposures can shift in subtle ways that businessowners may overlook. As work moves beyond the single, fully staffed office structure we were used to, changes in daily operations, premise usage and employee work locations can affect how coverage applies. Without reviewing and updating your General Liability coverage to include these evolving work environments, businessowners could face unexpected gaps in coverage.

Workers’ Compensation

Injuries that happen while employees are working remotely or in hybrid settings can complicate workers’ comp claims. Make sure your policy clearly covers remote work-related injuries and that you understand what’s required to stay compliant.

Adapting your business insurance to these changing work models helps protect your company from unexpected risks and ensures coverage aligns with how and where your team works.
