The promise of spring puts a smile on everyone’s faces…warm air, sunshine, open windows! But we all know rain is a part of spring, and that brings thoughts of flooding.
Some quick reminders:
Your home insurance policy does not cover flood. Only flood insurance covers a flood.
You can buy flood insurance even if you’re not in a flood zone. Bonus: it’s a LOT cheaper!
There’s a 30-day waiting period from the date you apply to the effective date of the policy, so think ahead!
If you’re thinking you don’t need flood insurance because you’re not in a flood zone, your mortgage company didn’t require it, and you’ve never had a flood before, think again. FEMA reports that 25-30% of all paid claims are from low-risk areas. You are five times more likely to have a flood than a fire.
