KCM Consulting has been helping clients to create and maintain strong retirement programs for over 30 years. Our philosophy is really threefold: fiduciary responsibility, education, and a strong team of professional partners.
- Fiduciary Responsibility – This is very important in today’s marketplace. The term fiduciary refers to a relationship of responsibility for assets or rights of another person. The word “fiduciary” is derived from the Latin term for “faith” or “trust”. Plan sponsors need to understand some basic rules set forth through the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA). ERISA sets standards of conduct for those who manage employee benefit plans and its assets. A plan’s fiduciaries include the trustee, investment advisors, and all individuals exercising discretion in the administration of the plan. This is a very important role that we take seriously. We endeavor to educate trustees of the plan on their fiduciary duties by scheduling trustee meetings to review all aspects of the plan. Documentation is provided to ensure responsibilities are being met to protect everyone from potential liability.
- Education – KCM Consulting believes strongly in educating plan participants in the value of the plan that is being offered. We are available to assist and advise from the time an employee is hired, through the enrollment process, retirement planning and finally implementing strategies at retirement. The need for planning, and understanding what will be needed for the life-stage where income from employment is no longer received, is paramount to a comfortable retirement.
- A strong team of professional partners – KCM Consulting will help trustees understand and determine the objectives for their plan based on the needs and demographics of employees and owners. We research and assist in selecting a record-keeper platform and fund line up. The Third Party Administrator (TPA) is another important team member who will keep the plan in compliance. We work with the TPA and trustees on an ongoing basis to maintain a plan document that is current and timely. Fees are reviewed frequently to ensure they are reasonable and in line with industry standards.
